Papaya, ya, ya!

I have discovered a new found LOVE for papaya while visiting Costa Rica! It's something I wasn't eating on a regular basis back home. I started eating this lovely fruit each morning as a way to break my fast and rehydrate while consuming something light and easy. I noticed that my digestion improved, my skin looked extra glowy and my inflammation seemed to be coming down at an even faster rate. The only thing I had really changed was eating papaya and so I decided to look into the benefits and couldn't believe what I found!

What's so great about papaya? Let me tell you its health benefits!

DIGESTION: Papayas contain an enzyme called papain that promotes better digestion. Papaya is also high in water content and fiber, both of which help to prevent things like constipation and promote regularity and a healthy digestive tract.

WEIGHT LOSS: While being high in fiber as well as water content it helps you feel fuller for longer periods of time with a low calorie content. The fiber promotes regular bowel movements keeping your system consistent and clear.

LOWERS CHOLESTEROL: Papaya is high in vitamin c, fiber and antioxidants helping prevent artery clog up!

EYESIGHT: Being rich in vitamin A, papaya helps protect your vision from corruption.

BOOSTS IMMUNITY: One single papaya contains 200% of your daily requirement of vitamin c which creates a nice shield for your immune system!

DEFENDS YOU FROM ARTHRITIS: With its high level of Vitamin C, papaya will help keep arthritis at bay. A study published in Annals of the Rheumatic Diseases showed that people who consumed foods low in Vitamin C were three times more likely to have arthritis than those who didn’t.
EASES MENSTRUAL PAIN: Women who experience menstrual pain should help themselves to several servings of papaya, an enzyme it contains called papain helps in regulating and easing flow during menstrual periods.

STRESS REDUCTION: Who doesn't love another option for stress relief? The fruit is rich in several nutrients like Vitamin C which can keep you free from stress.

ANTI CANCER PROPERTIES: Researchers suggest that the lycopene in papayas can reduce cancer risk.

INFLAMMATION REDUCTION: High in antioxidants, papaya helps reduce inflammation.

SKIN DAMAGE: Papaya protects against skin damage with its levels of lycopene and Vitamin C while also giving your skin a healthy and youthful glow. (Which is so amazing considering this grows in tropical environments where exposure to sign is high. Nature is so smart!)
One small papaya (152 grams) contains:
Calories: 59
Carbohydrates: 15 grams
Fiber: 3 grams
Protein: 1 gram
Vitamin C: 157% of the RDI
Vitamin A: 33% of the RDI
Folate (vitamin B9): 14% of the RDI
Potassium: 11% of the RDITrace amounts of calcium, magnesium and vitamins B1, B3, B5, E and K.

I have no doubts that papaya has helped expedite my healing over the last three months. Reducing inflammation has been a focal point of mine over the last year and the digestive properties of this healing fruit have helped me to eliminate excess hormones from my hormonal imbalances.

Have you regularly consumed papaya and noticed any changes in health? Is there another fruit you've found that keeps you feeling good?
If you don't have access to fresh papaya, check your digestive enzymes! Rainbow Light Digestive Enzymes are my favorite! more than likely your digestive enzyme contains papain, amylase, and/or protease which are all found in this superfood!!
